NANO

The Indian automaker that had major complications with their new plant for Nano-building, had to move from the site at a time when the factory was almost completed. Now Tata has a new birth-site for Nanos – the Pantnagar facility – and there it wishes to assemble some 80 000 of the microcars by March 2010.

The Pantnagar place is a temporary solution as by the first flock of Nanos are good to go, a second plant in Sanand will be set to take over the action. The Pantnagar won’t be closed; it will continue to play the second violin in the production ensemble.

After that, in the end of 2011, the Nano will get another engine to complement the 33 hp 625 cc 2-sylinder petrol. Tata wants to get the title of the world’s cheapest car, so it is not thinking about an AMG modification or something like that. The second engine will be a plain and rattling diesel unit for those oil-lovers.

But for those hedonists who consider getting a Tata Nano, the Indian enterprise will even offer air conditioning and an automatic gearbox!
